Iran Launches Massive Missile Attack on Israel Amid Rising Tensions

In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, Iran fired approximately 180 ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday evening, prompting a swift response from Israeli air defense systems, which intercepted many of the projectiles. Despite the interception, some missiles struck central and southern Israel, forcing millions into bomb shelters and leaving the region on high alert.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack, stating, “Iran made a big mistake tonight — and it will pay for it.” He emphasized Israel's determination to defend itself and retaliate against its enemies.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps claimed the assault was in retaliation for recent assassinations, including the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in July and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah last week. Iranian military officials stated that the missiles targeted key military bases and the Mossad headquarters.

While there were no reported casualties in Israel, one Palestinian man was killed by falling shrapnel in the West Bank. The Israeli military released footage of damage in Gedera, a town hit by debris. In response, Israel launched airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Beirut, Lebanon, following a ground invasion into southern Lebanon earlier in the day, resulting in at least 55 deaths and 156 injuries in Lebanon.

U.S. President Joe Biden affirmed strong support for Israel, stating, “Make no mistake, the United States is fully, fully, fully supportive of Israel.” U.S. naval destroyers assisted in intercepting missiles, and the Pentagon announced the deployment of several thousand additional troops to the region.

In a separate incident, at least six people were killed in Tel Aviv when two gunmen opened fire on a light rail train, which authorities labeled an act of terrorism. Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department is facilitating the evacuation of American citizens from Lebanon amid the escalating conflict.

As the situation continues to unfold, the potential for a broader conflict looms, with both sides bracing for further military action. The international community watches closely, hoping for a de-escalation of violence in this volatile region.
