Moana 2 World Premiere in Hawaii

Yesterday, Moana 2 made waves at its world premiere at the Lanikūhonua Cultural Institute in Kapolei, Hawaii. Stars Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson joined filmmakers, special guests, and critics for a celebration honoring the heart and soul of the Moana story.

The evening began with an awe-inspiring performance by Tiana Nonosina Liufau, Kayla Faʻamaligi, and other talented Polynesian creatives, paying tribute to the Pacific peoples, cultures, and traditions that inspired the beloved tale.

While critics were in attendance and early reactions have surfaced, it’s worth noting that Disney flew some reporters to the event, so reactions might come with a pinch of bias. Additionally, Disney’s decision to hold the review embargo until the day before the movie’s theatrical release suggests a cautious confidence in the sequel.

Despite these considerations, the initial buzz is encouraging. While the new songs may not quite measure up to those of the original, Moana 2 is being praised as a solid continuation of the 2016 hit. Given that the film was initially developed as a TV series before being upgraded to a theatrical release, this positive reception is a promising start. Fans can see if it delivers when it hits theaters over Thanksgiving weekend.

Disney’s Conservation Efforts Shine with Moana 2

Disney is diving into ocean conservation alongside the release of Moana 2, partnering with National Geographic Pristine Seas and the Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS) to inspire and protect. Together, they aim to celebrate explorers and answer the call to protect our oceans while honoring the spirit of Moana.

A new featurette, filled with stunning footage from Moana 2, emphasizes how the ocean connects and sustains us, fostering happiness and adventure across cultures and coastlines.

Since 2008, Pristine Seas has explored and protected vital underwater ecosystems, contributing to the creation of 29 marine protected areas covering over 6.8 million square kilometers. These "national parks of the sea" are crucial for preserving biodiversity and supporting communities worldwide.

This campaign reflects Moana’s enduring message: the ocean isn’t just a setting for a story—it’s a source of life and inspiration for generations to come.
